“The Contented Mind”

Philippians 2:5-11

WHAT IS IT THAT YOU THINK ABOUT WHEN NOT WORK RELATED?

WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO GIVE UP OF YOURSELF IN ORDER TO BE AT PEACE WITH OTHERS?  V. 3

HOW MUCH CONTROL DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GIVE CHRIST?

A CONTENTED MIND KNOWS THAT WHAT IT CAN BE IS BY GOD’S POWER ALONE.  V. 6

JESUS WAS EQUAL WITH GOD, POSSESSED EVERYTHING THAT MADE GOD WHO HE IS.

JOHN 14:9-JESUS SAITH UNTO HIM, HAVE I BEEN SO LONG TIME WITH YOU, AND YET HAST THOU NOT KNOWN ME, PHILIP? HE THAT HATH SEEN ME HATH SEEN THE FATHER; AND HOW SAYEST THOU THEN, SHEW US THE FATHER?

HE DID NOT USE IT TO GET WHAT HE WANTED.

HE DID NOT SEE IT AS SOMETHING HE NEEDED TO WORK TO KEEP.

JOHN 14:10-BELIEVEST THOU NOT THAT I AM IN THE FATHER, AND THE FATHER IN ME? THE WORDS THAT I SPEAK UNTO YOU I SPEAK NOT OF MYSELF: BUT THE FATHER THAT DWELLETH IN ME, HE DOETH THE WORKS.

2. A CONTENTED MIND IS HUMBLE IN ATTITUDE. V. 7-8

IN ORDER TO SET THE EXAMPLE, HE STRIPPED HIMSELF OF ALL HIS PRIVILEGES, TO BECOME A SLAVE.

IN ORDER TO BECOME THE HIGH PRIEST THAT WE NEED, HE HUMBLED HIMSELF EVEN MORE TO KNOW OUR SUFFERING.

HEBREWS 4:15-FOR WE HAVE NOT AN HIGH PRIEST WHICH CANNOT BE TOUCHED WITH THE FEELING OF OUR INFIRMITIES; BUT WAS IN ALL POINTS TEMPTED LIKE AS WE ARE, YET WITHOUT SIN.

IN ORDER TO BECOME THE PERFECT SACRIFICE HE HUMBLED HIMSELF EVEN MORE TO BE CRUCIFIED.

3. THE CONTENTED MIND WILL TRUST IN GOD’S

     MERCY AND PROMISE. V.9-10

THE FATHER SAW HIS SACRIFICE AND WAS SATISFIED.

1 JOHN 4:10- HEREIN IS LOVE, NOT THAT WE LOVED GOD, BUT THAT HE LOVED US, AND SENT HIS SON TO BE THE PROPITIATION FOR OUR SINS.

THE FATHER LIFTED HIM UP AND EXALTED HIM.

THE FATHER HONORED HIS SACRIFICE.
